We played our first game of the season against ACS (International). Though we were the clear favourites to win the game, it was still the first real match we were playing in a while and we did not want to underestimate our opponent. Thus, it was still a game we had to take seriously.
We began the first quarter with good agressive defense - causing turnovers, forcing bad shots by our opponents and also blocking a lot of those shots, resulting in a scoreless first quarter for our opponents.
However, our offense also had a shaky start, as some of our open shots did not fall and we only scored 9 points in the period.
In the second quarter, we kept up the defensive pressure and also began to make our 3s through Shao Jie and Justin. We started to move the ball faster in transition and got fast break points, resulting in our lead ballooning to 25-1 at one point and putting the game out of reach for the opponent.
The second half was played at a slightly faster pace, as we scored more points but also eased up on defense, allowing them to score points as well.
Joel, Vignesh and Justin contributed 16, 14 points and 11 points each whilst Vignesh was our top rebounder (8) and in steals (6). Shaojie was our top 3pt shooter with 3 out of 4 shots made. Our team's average shooting percentage was 33% and we hope to keep working on the performance of the team for the remainder of the upcoming round 1 games.
