Our next game in the preliminary round was against Anglo Chinese Junior College. After overcoming Dunman High School in the previous week, our team morale was high and everyone was feeling more confident of their game. Though our opponent was one of the weakest in our group, our captain, Weijing, reminded everyone not to be complacent and to look down on our opponents.

Receiving Pre-Game Instructions from Coach Baoling
The first few minutes saw a very disorganised defense and offense. Though we were able to intercept their balls a few times, our attack was all over the place and we were too hasty in making our shots, resulting in us being unable to score. We played man-to-man defense and though we kept our opponent from scoring, nevertheless, our defence had some gaps in which a stronger team might have taken advantage of. We were able to get most of the defensive rebounds and do outlet passes. From there, we managed to be more productive on front court and score points. The first quarter finished 12-0 in our favour.
In preparation for our semis against Hwa Chong, our coach wanted us to practise our full-court defence so as to improve our stamina. Thus, from the second quarter onwards, we practised our full-court defence. Our players moved quickly to intercept the ball or double-team a player and caused turnovers often. This allowed our players to ‘swing’ the ball around and practise our mid-range and 3-point shots. Our players finally got attuned to the game tempo and our attacks became less haphazard. Everyone knew where to run and when to take a shot. Our opposing team’s defence also got sloppy after a while and we were able to take advantage of that and score a lot of fast break points. Defense wise, there were still gaps but we were able to tighten it as the game progressed. The
game ended with a score of 58-1.
This game also marked the first time that Charmaine, one of our main players, did not get to play during the entire game as she had injured her ankle during the DHS match. It was also the first game in which all of the players were allowed some playing time, thus giving everyone in our team a chance to gain experience. It also showed the ability of our team to adapt even if one of our main players was unable to play, hence allowing us to build more chemistry amongst each other.
