We tipped off the A Division Basketball Season of 2016 with a match-up against Temasek. The game started off with TJC applying solid and tough defense on us, making it hard for us to get anything easy in the half court setting. However, we matched their defence with our own hard defence, applying full court pressure on them right from the start and thus managing to force turnovers, leading to breakaway layups for us.

The best period of the game for us was in the 2nd quarter as that was when we started to really make our opponents tire with our fullcourt press. With fatigue setting in on their side, this resulted in more turnovers on their part and more steals for us, leading once again to open layups. We managed to hold TJC to only 3 points in this period and this was when we built a sizeable lead of 25 points leading into half-time.

The 2nd half was more of the same as we managed to convert on many of our 2pt field goal attempts, making 35 out of 61 attempts (57%). Our 3pt percentage was pretty decent as well, standing at 4 out of 13 (31%). When we got fouled, we converted on the majority of our free throw attempts too, scoring 9 out of 12 (75%) as a team. This allowed our lead to continue to grow throughout the 2nd half, resulting in us winning by a final margin of 50 points, 91-41.

Points by Quarter:

RI 17 22 28 24

TJC 11 3 11 16

For this game, the team also managed to rack up 33 steals due to our pressure defence and 28 assists as we shared the ball on the offensive side. It was a good start to the season, and we hope that we can maintain this tempo throughout the whole season.
