The match against SRJC marked the beginning of Season 2016 for the girls’ team. We started off our game with a full court defence on our opponent, hoping to create turnovers and converting to quick easy points. However, we were not playing our usual selves as our defence and offence were not carried out smoothly. Rather, it was fast paced and rushed. Despite our shortcomings in these areas, we managed to convert our shots and layups, with some players handing out assists along the way. The 1st quarter ended with a score of 19-0.
We did not perform well in the 2nd quarter, as some of our teammates were still unable to focus on the game, possibly due to first game jitters. Once more, our full court press was not as successful as it should be, as some of us lost our player to mark whilst transitioning from full court press to man2man defence. Thus, we only managed to score 8 points in the 2nd quarter, whilst continuing to prevent our opponents from scoring.

We gradually picked up our momentum in the 2nd half of the game. The team seemed more confident on court despite still being a little jittery. We were able to widen the score line further as our players made their shots, finishing the game with a final score of 60-5.
Points by Quarter:
1st 2nd 3rd 4th
RI 19 8 20 13
SRJC 0 5 0 0
Overall, the girls’ team has several areas to improve on: in both defence and offence. In particular, we also need to improve the conversion rate of our shots, as we only managed to score 25 out of 63 2-point field goals, and 2 out of 11 3-pointers. On the bright side, we were able to bring down 33 offensive and defensive rebounds and make 36 steals in the game. Hopefully our performances will kick on from here as we hope to improve in the areas that we are lacking in.

Our next game will be against a tough opponent in the form of VJC on 15th April, 4.45pm at Singapore Basketball Center.
