With the lacklustre performance in our previous faceoff against Tampines Junior College (TPJC) still etched deeply in our minds, we set off for the match against Jurong Junior College (JJC) with a firm resolve and new found urgency as a team.

Knowing that this could well be a close game as JJC had previously defeated TPJC by a comparable margin to our victory against the latter, we were determined and brought our best game out right from the tip-off, scoring quick points in succession before forcing an early timeout by JJC when they were down 6-0.

Though our offence occasionally slipped up and failed to capitalize on easily convertible shots, we still managed to score off their turnovers with a much reinvigorated full court press, closing the opening quarter with a scoreline of 13-7.

Unsatisfied, we pressed them with much greater intensity in the 2nd quarter with the intention of killing the game early. Indeed, they were unable to penetrate our full court defence and were forced into making sloppy passes which our backline intercepted with relative ease. Incisive passing and good off the ball movement broke down their defence as halftime approached, with RI up by a score of 29-9.

It was more of the same in a 3rd quarter onslaught which ended 50-15. Our players were ready to contribute when called upon in the rotation, with no sign of sluggishness which was characteristic of our previous display. Long range attempts were frequently made and better rebounding was evident in a much improved performance. We were also effective in attacking their zone defense as our hard work in training our half court sets paid off spectacularly.

A better shooting performance from the boys all around

As a result, this game was not as close as was meant to be, with RI seeing JJC off 67-23 in the end. It was a reassuring win as we collected ourselves after a miserly outing the previous week and we got back to playing the game to our regular standards.

With the 2nd Round of the Nationals impending, we hope to build up momentum and rhythm to guide us through the remaining fixtures as we contend to defend our crown.

Points by Quarter:

1st 2nd 3rd 4th

RI 13 16 21 17

JJC 7 2 6 8

Our next game will be against Victoria Junior College which will be on 20th April, 1pm.
