Shaojie getting into the high post position to try to break the zone defence

Our game started off smoothly against Tampines Junior College as our full court pressure defence was too much for them to handle, causing our opponents to turn the ball over on several occasions. This allowed us to jump ahead with a 5-0 start.

However, as the game progressed, we began to see our offensive efforts come to a halt. On many of our possessions, we were unable to convert easy baskets under the rim to extend our lead further. In addition to this, our opponents were determined on giving us a hard time by boxing us out and fighting for every rebound. Despite a great defensive effort put up by our team, we could not close out the game early on.

The shots were not raining in for this game

The struggle continued on throughout the game with many of our players having a field goal percentage of below 30%. As a team, our 2pt field goal percentage dropped from 57% in the previous game against TJC to a much lower 34% in this game. However, what was much more worrying was that our shooting percentage from beyond the arc dropped to a staggering 8% coming off with 2 out of 25 attempts.

There was much that could have been improved in this game. We did not come close to reaching our target of a hundred points due to the poor state of our offence, especially in being unable to convert under basket shots. This game surely served as a good reminder to us how we should not let our guard down. Despite all this, we were able to secure the win with a score line of 54-17, finishing well towards the end of the game scoring 23 points in the final quarter.

As a team, we all duly agreed to never have such a day again. The feeling within each member of the team after the game is one that we all never want to experience again. This match taught us much and we resolve to work even harder for the remaining games of our season.

Points by Quarter:

1st 2nd 3rd 4th

RI 17 7 7 23

TPJC 6 4 0 7

Ejin getting close to his opponent and making it hard for him. We shut the TPJC offence in Q3 with our tight defence.
