In 2012, our Girls Team was playing in the National Schools A Division Finals against Hwa Chong Institution. This was my first year as the Basketball Teacher IC at Raffles and the first Basketball Finals that I would be part of.

The venue was at Toa Payoh Sports Hall, a much smaller venue than the bigger one at Jurong East. The cheers from the crowds who are just metres ahead really reverberates throughout the stadium. I still remember that match vividly as our team dominated HCI and they could not find an answer to try to stop our amazing center/forward Alanna and the sharp shooting of our shooting guard Yan Ping. Coupled with that, we had our strong J1 guards in the form of Gladys and Cheryl Pay who would cause turnovers and go on quick fast breaks. We also had our version of the twin towers of Illiana and Li Yong in the paint. Simply too powerful, we overwhelmed our opponents and stopped their 4 years winning streak. This was also in a way our sweet revenge after we lost in the finals two years prior to 2012 in overtime.
Now, we have a new championship winning girls team :)
