This is the second of our series of interviews where we find out more about how Raffles Basketball was like for the different batches through the years. Have a read and get a better sense of the good o' days. It truly is enlightening and encouraging to hear about how Raffles Basketball has evolved over the years. This time, we will find out more about the Raffles A Division Girls Team.

For today's TBT article, we will be hearing from Isabel Wong, the vice captain of the A Division Girls Team of 2014.

How was training like during your time?

Trainings were held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We also had one more afternoon of conditioning 😭😭😭 during season. So, we would easily spend about twelve hours training each week.

Coach was very hard on us on court and training was very physically demanding (for me anyway :) ) and we tracked our progress through conditioning tests. Teachers were always patient and they always went beyond what's required of them in their job scope (i.e. Mr Tay providing us with proper nutrition and tips for school athletes and Ms Wong staying back till late, giving the Chua Chu Kang people lifts back after training ends).

What do you treasure most of your basketball days in Raffles?

All the time we spent together as a team!! Moving on to university now, the sort of closeness forged by 'suffering' through training together cannot be found. We spent so many hours just being around each other, both on and off court. We helped each other through with our academic work, we celebrated every single birthday together, we pigged out at buffets, we had sleepovers where we didn't sleep and we encouraged each other when training got tough.

What is one significant memory that remains of your basketball days in Raffles?

ALETHEA'S SPIN MOVE LAY UP!!!! (You can watch it below!!) and coach being unable to look at Jiaxuan while scolding her because Jiaxuan was too cute. Taiwan trips were really good because we had to endure several games in a row yet it was also a good way to unwind and spend quality time as a team.

Jiaxuan - the soooo cute a player that coach cannot bear to look at whilst scolding her

Finally, any words of encouragement for our Raffles Basketball Teams?

Treasure every single moment; this is family.

(Mr Carlsen Tay) How true. Time does fly by really quickly and over this short span of time spent together, we have seen you all grow as one family. Thank you for your time Isabel and all the best for your studies at Yale-NUS College.
